(1 Day)
This is the perfect course for those wanting to learn safe techniques for climbing steep snow. The curiculum includes balance and footwork, use of ice axes and crampons, roped climbing techniques and self arrest. This course is a prerequisite for a summit climb of Mt. Hood via the South Side Route.

Anchors and Belaying for Advanced Snow Climbing
(1 Day)
After becoming proficient with the skills taught in the Basic Snow Climbing course, the Advanced Snow Climbing course will give the climber the tools for ascending steeper snow routes. The skills taught in this course are steeper snow climbing techniques, snow anchors, anchor equalization, belaying, and team roping systems.

Introduction to Crevasse Rescue
(1 Day)
We introduce C pulley systems, Z pulley systems, and combinations of the two. We'll focus on the rescue of a crevasse victim, and actually run through the full spectrum of what can happen, culminating with a rescue simulation. Remember, students should have a solid fundamental understanding of snow anchors before entering this course.

Introduction to Ice Climbing
(1 Day)
For the seasoned snow climber learning to climb ice is a great next step. This course is designed for people who would like to climb moderate to steep ice routes in the mountains. Front pointing and the use of technical ice tools, placing ice screws and building anchors are covered in this course.

Ice Climbing Course
(2 Day)
This course is offered for climbers interested in more instruction and practice with steep and vertical ice climbing techniques. In the 2 Day course, there is more of an emphasis on anchor construction as well as protection placement and leading. Students will have the option of doing a top-roped lead.

Glacier Travel/ Crevasse Rescue Course
(2 Day)
Sometimes, one day is just not enough! This is especially true for the many complexities of glacier travel and crevasse rescue techniques. This course is strongly suggested for those climbers who are considered tackling bigger climbs that involve glacier travel. In our one day course, we are often able to cover some of the basics of crevasse rescue, but in the two day course, we'll have ample opportunity to refine techniques and have plenty of chances to practice. We'll also be able to go more in depth for roping systems and routefinding on glaciers.

Autumn Glacier Climbing (3 days)
This three day seminar is suited for those who are strictly interested in building their alpine climbing skill set. On day 1, we'll hike in, cross the Eliot Glacier and set up camp. If we have time in the afternoon, we'll review some basic climbing techniques. On days 2 and 3 we'll delve into advanced techniques such as belaying and anchoring for steep snow, crevasse rescue and steep ice climbing skills. Due to the time of year, we will not be making a summit attempt on Mt Hood.
