Join Timberline Mountain Guides and International Mountain Climbing School for an incredible 17 day trip to climb in Ecuador. IMCS has been in operation for thirty years and is one the Northeast's premier guide services. Owners Maury Mc Kinney and Brad White are excited about joining forces with us to offer this expedition.
MCS has been running trips to Ecuador for the past five years and they have climbed on many of the peaks in the country. During this time they have gained a lot of knowledge about the different high peaks and acclimatization peaks. They have also stayed at many different lodging facilities. No matter what the weather or climbing conditions are during our visit we know they have the experience and knowledge to provide you with a safe and exciting experience. IMCS has formed good working relationships with local guides and outfitters Edgar Vaca and Jaime Avila. They will help us to get the most out of every trip and make it easier to respond to changing weather and climbing conditions.
Ecuador sits astride both the Andes and the equator in northwestern South America, bordered to the north by Colombia, to the east and south by Peru, and to the west by the Pacific Ocean. It is the smallest country in the Andes and the second smallest in South America. But what it lacks in size it makes up for with an abundance of friendly people, a rich cultural history, biological splendor, and stunning scenery.
Mountaineers find Ecuador well suited as a high altitude training ground. There are many technically straightforward ascents of 5,000 meter peaks. Ecuador's highest peaks are heavily glaciated and offer high altitude experience of an intermediate difficulty level. The use of crampons, ice axe, self-arrest and glacier travel and crevasse rescue is required to be a member of the climbing team.
Within a day's journey of Quito, the capital city, are the ice-clad Andes, Amazon rain forest, quiet beaches and the incredible Galapagos Islands. Superb mountain scenery is only one of Ecuador's attractions. This is a climbing expedition with cultural diversions to see live Andean music, Inca ruins, incredible colonial architecture and colorful indigenous markets. The cultural tour will enable you to see unique places and the people who live there. We have witnessed two major volcanic eruptions over the years of Guagua Pichincha in 1999 and Reventador in 2002, but they weren't planned. Every aspiring alpinist should take the opportunity to climb in Ecuador
Each trip has involved a slightly different itinerary. Though we plan on climbing a number of the bigger, snow covered peaks we also plan on climbing a number of acclimatization peaks. Please be prepared to be flexible. Your safety is our primary concern. Since we have private transport throughout the trip we are free to travel the country and climb where the conditions and weather are best. Land cost is $2950 per person for the 17 day trip.
